All Foam vs. Hybrid - Which Mattress is for you?

So, you're looking for a new mattress? With so many different styles of mattresses, it can be tough to decide which one is the right one for you. You want something that will handle all your sleeping needs and preferences. Everyone has unique needs or concerns in terms of comfort level when lying down on our back, front, or side - which may require specific types of support!

All-Foam mattress or a Hybrid? They are made differently for a reason. That is why it is important to know the pros and cons of each type of mattress so you can make the best decision for your needs.

The best way to decide what mattress is right for you, whether it's an All-Foam or Hybrid style, depends on why they're being used. So before jumping headfirst into buying a new brand new mattress, there are a few things you need to know.

What is an All-Foam Mattress?

Foam mattresses have been around for a while. They consist of different density foam layers that will bring good support and softness, all at the same time. They use body temperature to mould to your body shape, and when pressure is released, it will bounce back and will be able to remember your body shape and best sleeping position (memory foam).

Pros And Cons Of All-Foam Mattresses

Pros

Softness: You might prefer a cushy mattress, but you have to consider what type of sleeper you are. If you are a tummy sleeper, this might not be your best option. But if you are a side sleeper or back sleeper, it would be a perfect fit for you.

Back Support: Foam mattresses help with spine alignment, mainly for side and back sleepers.

They mould your body: Foam will mould your body, contouring your body. It will do it every time you roll or move while sleeping.

● Motion Isolation/transfer: It does a great job absorbing movement. A convenient feature if you share your bed.

Cons

Quality: There will be a lot of options in the market, some of them of poor quality or too expensive.

Off-Gas: Many all-foam mattresses are made with polyurethane, a material that is “off-gas”, with a particular odour and Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions, which is not very convenient for your health and our environment. (But, not Haven mattresses! We are proud to provide mattresses with zero off-gassing.)

Plunging: Some foam mattresses can be a little too soft, meaning that you probably won’t be getting the support you need. Or trying to change position can be a real challenge, since you are practically wearing the mattress.

Trap temperature:

Your body needs to be cool enough to fall asleep or keep sleeping. The majority of foam mattresses retain a lot of body heat, making it difficult to have proper sleep.

Haven’s All-Foam Mattresses are made with clean plant-based materials with the highest technology available and healthy foams certified by CertiPUR-US to give you a good night's sleep.

Cool-Gel: A slow sink foam, to provide the perfect body contouring and coolness. It is a soya-based layer foam that will pull your body heat away as you sleep, keeping it cool, and at the same time great contouring.

Vented Talalay Latex: One of our premium features! Talalay Latex is a plant-based material extracted from the rubber tree, which means it is renewable. It is a breathable material improving airflow. Infused with natural copper delivers 7 times more breathability than Dunlop latex!

Natural Copper: Haven’s Talalay latex is infused with real flecks of Copper. Helping with thermal conductivity and letting the heat pass through faster.

Open-Cell Foams: Like other of our features, it is soya-based. Delivering exceptional ventilation, allowing moisture and heat to escape. It won’t allow heat buildup, helping you to sleep longer and better.

What is a Hybrid Mattress?

It is probably what you were thinking of, a combination of the comfort and pressure relief of foam, plus the support of the innerspring. This could sound like the perfect solution to everyone's sleep problems.

Hybrid mattresses are perfect for those who want the benefits of both traditional innerspring beds and all-foam mattresses. The continuous coil core will provide firm support while providing good contouring, thanks to its added layers that consist largely of memory foam!

Be wary of being offered a “hybrid” mattress. These mattresses have just two layers: an innerspring and outer supportive foam, which can lead to discomfort after long periods of use because the pressure from your body will be unevenly distributed across these cheaper components.

Pros and Cons of Hybrid Mattresses

Pros

Temperature Regulation: Since heat can go through the core easier. You won’t overheat giving you a cooler slumber.

Mobility: because of the support it gives, you won't sink into it, helping you move and change position when sleeping with a lot less effort, bringing you a better rest or disruption.

Edge support: Most hybrid mattresses have strong edges to support the inner coil core, you can feel it when sleeping or when you seat on the edge.

Durability: Hybrid mattresses have great durability, for up to 10 years!

No Box Spring: Even though they do not need it, consider a hard surface to place, that will increase its lifespan.

Cons

Heavy: A hybrid mattress could be heavy! You might think it twice before moving it to a different room on taking it with you to your new place.

Noisy: A low-quality mattress can get loud. Most of them are made with a continuous coil that, with time, can start squeaking. That will be disrupting your sleep when changing position or just moving a little bit (or your partner).

Price: Normally they will have a higher cost than a regular mattress or an all-foam.

You might think that a Hybrid mattress is not for everyone. You can be afraid of not getting the softness of a regular pillowtop mattress, probably that it won’t be as soft as you want it so it won’t be moulding your body the way you like it. Here are some of Haven’s benefits that might help you decide.

What to Consider Before Choosing Between an All-Foam or Hybrid Mattress

To choose the correct one you should take into consideration more than one thing. One mattress could be comfortable for you, but not for someone else.

●  What type of sleeper are you? Every person has their own needs when it comes to sleeping. If your favourite position is lying on the stomach, then maybe try out a mattress with extra support for back it won't bend too far forward while resting; however if side-sleepers will try to relief pressure on shoulders and hips.

●  Weight is something to consider when choosing a mattress. It would be more likely that a kid won’t necessarily need a hybrid bed, but an all-foam could be a perfect fit.

●  Maybe you don't sleep alone and it's hard to find the perfect position. That could be disrupting your partner’s restful slumber, so consider getting a mattress that will do well with motion transfer- all of us want our partners happy!

●  Edge support! You may have the habit of tying your shoe laces sitting on the edge or taking a few moments waiting to be fully awake. A hybrid mattress could help with extra support for that area given.

At the end of the day, it’s up to you which mattress type you choose. If you want the bounciness and cooling effects of a hybrid mattress, go for it! But if an all-foam bed feels more comfortable and supportive to you, maybe that's the one for you. Just be sure to factor in your own individual sleep needs and preferences when making your decision.
