How Moms Can Get the Best Sleep Ever: 7 Tips from Blogger Stephanie Vainer

Being a mom usually means that getting a restful night's sleep is challenging... This is why we asked expert mama and entrepreneur, Stephanie Vainer of SPV Living, to guest write this post with her best tips and products for better sleep. Happy reading!

I still remember the first time we brought our daughter home from the hospital, it was also the last time I remember having a decent sleep.

That is until we got the 14” LUX Hybrid mattress from Haven Sleep Co.

For a long time, I struggled to figure out how us moms can get a good night's sleep. But I’ve narrowed down the best tips and tricks to help you sleep—more often.

I’m sure we’re all aware of how horrible we feel when we don’t get enough sleep, it makes our jobs as mothers, wives, and CEO’s a whole lot harder.

Did you know that a lack of sleep can make it hard to focus, your immune system becomes weakened and you become more forgetful? Which explains why there's such a thing as "mom's brain".

However, there are many factors that can prevent a good night of rest, like stress, worry, phones, noise, and of course every mother's lifeline, caffeine. Oh and if you didn't already know, children like to wake up in the middle of the night. Which we can’t help much in that department but I can suggest some tips to help us moms get a good night's sleep.

CREATE A BEDTIME RITUAL

We have a bedtime routine down for our children but why not have one for moms too? Just like children, a bedtime ritual can help our bodies get used to going to sleep easily at night. In other words, it's a great way to train our bodies and minds to go to sleep every night at the same time. It’s what I like to call a bedtime ritual (it sounds way more luxurious than "routine").

TURN OFF YOUR PHONE

Turning off my phone at least 30 minutes before I plan on going to bed has been a game-changer. I understand for those of us who are also working moms it may be a little harder to do but trust me it only made me feel more energized for work the next day. Sleep improves attention, memory, and concentration.

WASH YOUR FACE

Every single night before bed I wash my face, apply my serums, and take a minute to myself. One of the worst things you can do for your skin is sleep with makeup on! So every evening you should be washing off the day's grime, makeup, and even sunscreen. It clogs your pores and, I don’t know about you but, I hate having zits.

SET THE MOOD

I always have lavender candles around our home, but the best are usually combined with other relaxing ingredients like chamomile and jasmine. As soon as the sun goes down I light the candles and turn on my diffusers to set the mood. Turning off any harsh lights helps too.

USE ESSENTIAL OILS

I am a huge fan of essential oils as you guys might know, and one of my favourite ways to use oils is for relaxation and sleep. I recommend lavender oil, tangerine oil, or ylang-ylang oil to promote restful sleep.

DRINK MAGNESIUM

One of my favourite parts of my night-time routine is when I make myself a warm tea. Or if I'm feeling like I want something sweet, I will make a magnesium latte. Which also helps deal with those sugar cravings I sometimes get before bed.

READ A BOOK

Last but not least, read a book. I used to lay awake before we got our new Haven Sleep Co. mattress and the only thing that would help me get back to sleep is reading a book. My eyes would get tired and heavy, or I’d fall asleep and not even realize I did.

I just wanted to quickly say thank you so much for taking the time to read this article. Don't forget to share this with a friend, your mom, or anyone who is struggling to get a good night's rest. I promise the more consistent you are with this bedtime ritual the more sleep you will get!
