Top 4 Plants for Your Bedroom According to Plant Stylist Brittany Leonardelli

by Guest Blogger

Who knew there was such as thing as a plant stylist? If you love plants but have ever felt overwhelmed by all the options out there, fear no more! We've asked plant styling expert, Brittany Leonardelli, to appear as guest writer for this post and to share her top 4 plants for bedroom bliss.

Why is it that our bedroom is often the last room to make into a beautiful space? Maybe it’s because it’s usually the last room that guests would see in our homes, or maybe because it can get super expensive to style a bedroom. Regardless of the many reasons, our bedroom should be one of the most important spaces in our home. Our bedroom is where we put closure to the day and it’s where we set the tone first thing in the morning for the day ahead. It’s also where our body spends most of its time recovering. This is why I believe our bedroom is the most important space to create a peaceful oasis!

So how do we achieve this so-called peaceful oasis in our bedroom?

First of all, investing in a good mattress is a great first start. One of the things I look for in a mattress is that it doesn't add nasty toxins into the air while I sleep. When I learned about Haven Sleep Co. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they were not only a Canadian company, but that their mattresses are actually plant based and vegan, which means  that the mattress is healthy for you and doesn’t let off harmful toxins into their air.

Another way to create a peaceful oasis without breaking the bank is by decluttering! Remove all the unnecessary ‘things’ that can clutter your space and mind and you’ll find you will have better sleep.

Lastly, and in my opinion the most important aspect in creating a peaceful oasis in our bedroom: Plants! Plants go hand in hand with making our bedroom a perfect place to rest.

I’m not talking about the faux plants that become dust collectors. I’m talking about real, live, lush plants! Plants are my favourite accessory to bring into any bedroom. They are a holistic stress reliever and actually work to purify toxins out of our air. Plants completely transform a space, making it feel more welcoming and calming, and I think it’s the direct connection to nature that makes us feel so at peace when we're around plants.

My top four plants for the bedroom:

  1. Zamioculcas a.k.a. ZZ Plant *Not pictured, but it's a great option for an easy to care for statement plant
  2. Sansevieria a.k.a. Snake Plant
  3. Ficus Elastica a.k.a. Rubber Plant
  4. Pothos

Additional plants pictured (also wonderful for your bedroom but sometimes harder to find):

  • Ficus Lyrata a.k.a. Fiddle Leaf Fig
  • Aglaonema a.k.a. Chinese Evergreen

Try adding some of these plants to your night stand, at the foot of your bed, or in the corner on the floor, and watch as your mood shifts to a more positive and peaceful state.

Happy Sleeping!
